India-Nepal Border Security Reviewed at High-Level Meeting Chaired by Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary
Patna: A high-level review meeting on issues related to the India-Nepal border was held at the ‘Samvad’ hall in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here on September 26, 2026 under the chairmanship of Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary also attended the meeting.
Detailed presentations were made on border security and management, law and order in border areas, and measures to prevent illegal activities.
The Chief Minister said the security of the country was the government’s top responsibility. Given the sensitive nature of the India-Nepal border, efforts were being made to continuously strengthen the security and management system.
He directed the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Bihar Police and central agencies to work in close coordination to ensure effective control over all forms of illegal activity along the border.
Special surveillance should be maintained against infiltration, forged documents, counterfeit currency, drug trafficking and other criminal activities in border areas, he said.
Choudhary also stressed the need to ensure the availability of necessary machines at banks in border areas to detect counterfeit notes. Suspicious financial transactions and fake or suspicious bank accounts should be identified and action taken as per the rules.
In line with the Centre’s ‘Drug-Free India 2029’ target, the Chief Minister directed officials to take effective action against drug trafficking to prevent the movement of narcotic substances through border areas.
He further directed district magistrates and police officials of border districts to hold regular monthly coordination meetings with central security and investigation agencies.
The Chief Minister also called for the identification of unregistered religious sites in border areas and appropriate action in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
He directed officials to ensure better educational facilities in border areas.
Choudhary said all concerned agencies must work with greater vigilance, information-sharing and coordinated action to strengthen border security. The information network in sensitive areas should be strengthened and prompt action taken against any suspicious activity in accordance with the law.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Director General of Police Preet Verma, Principal Secretary of the Home Department Pankaj Kumar, DGP Special Branch Kundan Krishnan, additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and secretaries of various departments, and the Chief Minister’s Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh.
Senior police officials and representatives of central agencies were also present. District magistrates and superintendents of police of border districts joined the meeting through video-conferencing.
