Mumbai: Actors Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have pledged to refurbish 20 schools in Mumbai. The announcement was made on September 17, 2026, to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday.
The schools will be selected based on recommendations from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The couple said the initiative aims to create better-equipped learning spaces for children.
Bhatt shared the announcement on her X handle while wishing the Prime Minister. She said the initiative would support efforts to improve learning spaces for children.
‘Happy Birthday to our Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji! Wishing you a healthy and fulfilling year ahead,’ Bhatt wrote. ‘The spirit of #SevaSankalpAbhiyaan reflects a wonderful vision of collective action and giving back.’
‘To mark this day and support the cause, Ranbir and I are pledging to refurbish 20 schools as per the recommendations of @mybmc, helping create brighter, better-equipped spaces for our children to learn and thrive,’ she added.
The pledge is part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. The campaign began on September 17 and will run for one month until October 17, 2026.
The initiative marks Prime Minister Modi’s 25 years of public service. He is set to complete 25 years in public life on October 7, 2026.
The campaign includes various public welfare activities. These include blood donation drives, health camps, cleanliness campaigns, and plantation programmes.
Several other Bollywood celebrities also extended birthday wishes to PM Modi. Shah Rukh Khan wished him good health, happiness, and fulfilment.
‘Here’s wishing you a very Happy Birthday, Honourable PM @narendramodi ji. To many more years of good health, happiness and fulfilment. May you always carry the strength and positivity to inspire the nation,’ Shah Rukh Khan wrote on X.
Salman Khan wrote, ‘Janam Din Mubarak Ho Honourable PM Sahab, Wish you a very Happy Birthday Narendra Bhai Modi. Jai Hind.’
Akshay Kumar said, ‘Today is the birthday of our esteemed Prime Minister ji, and this day is being celebrated with a resolve for service. I believe there cannot be a more beautiful way to celebrate a birthday than this.’
Actor Ranveer Singh also joined the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. He pledged to fund the education of 1,000 girls.
‘I pledge to join the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and help 1,000 girls with their education. I hope this will please Bappa, and his blessings will always be with us,’ Singh said.
Other celebrities who wished the Prime Minister included Mohanlal, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, and Kangana Ranaut.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan was announced by BJP National President Nitin Nabin on September 9. He said the campaign would mark PM Modi’s 25 years of public service.
The first 15 days of the campaign overlap with Seva Pakhwada. Seva Pakhwada extends until Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
Alia Bhatt was recently seen in the film Alpha alongside Sharvari. She will next appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
