Patna: Bank employees and officers across India observed a nationwide strike on Friday, September 11, 2026, called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The strike disrupted branch-level services at public sector banks for the day and, with the second Saturday and Sunday following, branch operations remained unavailable for three consecutive days.
Digital channels including UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs continued to function normally. Cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearing and other counter services were affected.
The UFBU said approximately eight lakh employees and officers participated in the strike. Public sector banks including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India and Bank of Baroda were the most affected, while private sector banks largely operated normally.

In Patna, employees of the most of the nationalised banks observed the strike.
The primary demands are the implementation of a five-day banking week and the withdrawal of the revised Performance Linked Incentive scheme. Unions have announced a three-day strike from September 28 to 30 and an indefinite strike from October 26 if the demands are not met.
