Patna: Bihar Chief Minister (CM) Samrat Choudhary felicitated 168 meritorious students who secured top positions in the 2026 Intermediate and Matriculation annual examinations of Bihar School Examination Board a.k.a Bihar Board at a ceremony held at the Lok Sevak Awas in Patna on September 9 . The students were presented with medals, certificates, and cash awards, and the Chief Minister also hosted them for lunch following the event .
The government provided a cash award of Rs 2 lakh to students who secured the first position, Rs 1.5 lakh for the second rank, and Rs 1 lakh for the third rank in both examinations . Intermediate students securing the fourth and fifth positions received Rs 30,000 each, while Matriculation students ranked fourth to tenth received Rs 20,000 each . In addition to the prize money, all 168 awardees were given Rs 51,000 to purchase a laptop .
Top Rank Holders Identified
Among the Intermediate Science stream toppers, Aditya Prakash Aman from Samastipur secured the first position, while Sakshi Kumari from Sitamarhi and Sapna Kumari from Nawada were awarded the second rank . In the Arts stream, Nishu Kumari from Gaya topped the list, with Siddhi Shikha from Sitamarhi and Chandradeep Kumar from Lakhisarai among the second-rank holders . For the Commerce stream, Aditi Kumari from Patna was the topper, while Mahi Kumari from Patna secured the second position . In the Matric examination, Pushpanjali Kumari from Jamui and Sabrin Parveen from Vaishali jointly secured the first rank .
CM Announces Timely Award Ceremonies
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announced that from next year, the topper felicitation ceremony would be organized within one month of the declaration of examination results, rather than being held in November or December . He said students who achieve excellence should be recognized and encouraged immediately to ensure their achievement receives timely recognition .
The Chief Minister highlighted Bihar’s ancient educational legacy, noting that Nalanda University had been re-established and that steps were being taken towards the re-establishment of Vikramshila University, including land allocation for the project . He stated that facilities such as coaching, live classes, and live tutoring had been arranged in 700 Saraswati Vidya Niketan model schools to provide students with additional academic support .
Students Encouraged to Become Job Creators
Choudhary urged young people to move beyond being job seekers and become job creators, stating that land had already been made available for around 1,000 industries in the state . He said industrial development would create new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship for Bihar’s youth . The Chief Minister also urged the award-winning students to become ambassadors of Bihar’s educational progress and inspire other students to work towards academic excellence .
The felicitation programme was organized by the Bihar government and the Education Department to recognize outstanding performance in the 2026 examinations . Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, along with Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, senior officials, students, and their parents were present at the event . Following the ceremony, the Chief Minister interacted with the students and their parents over lunch .
