Patna: In preparation for the upcoming BCCI domestic cricket season and the Ranji Trophy tournament, the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) recently concluded a special three-day training seminar for its physiotherapists.
Senior physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Satish Kumar, conducted the programme and provided BCA’s physiotherapists with insights into modern sports physiotherapy and key aspects of player fitness.
The BCA’s Ranji Trophy camp is currently underway, with all selected players regularly training on the field. The special seminar for the physiotherapists was conducted by Satish Kumar during the camp in the presence of the players.
The three-day training programme covered modern methods of injury prevention, assessment of players’ physical capabilities, workload management during matches and training sessions, and the timely initiation of treatment and rehabilitation in case of injuries. Several procedures were also demonstrated practically during the training, enabling BCA’s physiotherapists to apply these techniques more effectively on the field.
Satish Kumar provided training on modern approaches to injury prevention, player fitness and movement screening, early identification of muscle and joint injuries, recovery and rehabilitation, strength and mobility, emergency medical management during matches, monitoring players’ workload and recovery, and a safe return to play following an injury.

Special emphasis was also placed on players’ mental preparation, maintaining physical capacity over the long term, and the importance of sleep, hydration and recovery.
Detailed guidance was provided on determining the appropriate stage at which an injured player should return to training or matches, as well as on progressively rebuilding fitness in a structured manner.
The BCA’s initiative is an important step towards keeping its players fit and safe throughout the domestic season while preparing them to deliver their best performances.
In the upcoming BCCI-organised Ranji Trophy matches, Bihar are scheduled to play their first match against Uttar Pradesh on October 11 at the newly constructed Rajgir Cricket Stadium.
Keeping this important fixture and the entire Ranji Trophy season in mind, the BCA is working to continuously update not only its players’ fitness protocols but also those of its support staff with modern techniques and the latest developments in sports science.
