Patna: The two-day 36th Bihar State Kyorugi and 9th Poomsae Taekwondo Championship concluded on Sunday, August 9, at Arya Vidyapeeth in Raghunathpur, Motihari, the district headquarters of East Champaran.
Patna emerged as the overall winner in Kyorugi, winning 20 gold, 12 silver and 20 bronze medals. In Poomsae, Patna finished runners-up with five gold medals. Begusarai finished runners-up in Kyorugi, while Muzaffarpur won the Poomsae title.
Giving this information, Bihar Taekwondo Association joint secretary Samta Rahi said the championship was inaugurated by MP Radha Mohan Singh. Addressing the players, he highlighted the importance of sport and its role in the development of young people. The chief guest, East Champaran District Magistrate Saurabh Suman Yadav, also encouraged and motivated the players.
Bihar Taekwondo Association president Shashikala Bhadani, secretary Rajesh Kumar Sahu, Motihari Taekwondo Association president Shivaji, organiser Zahid Hussain, secretary Arun Kumar Srivastava, Arya Vidyapeeth chairman Dr SP Singh, and office-bearers of the Bihar Olympic Association and Taekwondo Association were among those present. Coaches, referees, parents and enthusiastic players from various parts of Bihar also attended the event.
