Patna: Jayesh Mishra of Madhubani emerged as the sole leader in the Open category with six points after the conclusion of the seventh round of the Bihar State Under-17 Open and Girls’ FIDE Rating Chess Championship, organised by the Sitamarhi District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association on Tuesday. Four players are jointly placed second with 5.5 points each.
On the top board, Jayesh Mishra faced Praneet Sinha of Muzaffarpur in a fiercely contested and highly strategic encounter. Both players displayed excellent positional play, and the match ended in a draw after 39 moves.
On the second board, Tanmay Kashyap of Patna took on Aryan Kumar of Khagaria. Playing with the black pieces, Aryan produced an impressive performance and defeated Tanmay in 62 moves while employing the Pirc Defence to claim the full point.
The third board featured a clash between Anubhav Mishra of Madhubani and Ishan Shashwat of Patna. In an engrossing contest, Ishan demonstrated outstanding strategy in the Sicilian Defence and defeated Anubhav after a marathon 81-move game.
On the fourth board, Parthwah of Muzaffarpur faced Ambar Srivastava of Chhapra. Playing with the black pieces, Ambar capitalised on his opponent’s mistake in the Nimzo-Indian Defence and secured victory in 42 moves.
In the Girls’ category, Arpita of Bhojpur maintained her lead with six points after seven rounds. Disha of Muzaffarpur is placed second with 5.5 points, while Navya is third with five points.
In the seventh round, Arpita defeated Ishika of Begusarai while playing with the black pieces, sealing victory after 82 moves.
On the second board, Navya Goenka of Muzaffarpur made full use of the advantage of the white pieces to defeat Shalini Srivastava of Patna.
On the third board, Disha Kumari of Muzaffarpur faced Aradhya Prakash of Patna. Maintaining control throughout the game with accurate moves, Disha defeated Aradhya to register an important victory.
