Patna: The final day for filing nominations for the Bihar Legislative Council elections concluded today, with a total of 10 candidates submitting their papers. Of these, nine candidates are from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), while one belongs to the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
As there are exactly 10 nominations for 10 seats, all candidates are set to be elected unopposed.
Out of the 10 seats, nine are for regular elections and one is for a by-election. Among the NDA candidates, four each are from the Janata Dal (United) and the Bharatiya Janata Party, while one candidate represents the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas). The Rashtriya Janata Dal has fielded one candidate.
Expressing gratitude, BJP MLC candidate Anil Kumar Thakur said, “I thank the party leadership. My parents gave me life, I worked hard, and the party gave me recognition. I am deeply grateful to the party for this honour.”

From the BJP, Sanjay Mayukh, Pawan Singh, Anil Thakur, and Sheela Pandit filed their nominations. The JD(U) candidates include Nishant Kumar, Bharti Mehta, ShivranI Prajapati, and Lalan Prasad (for the by-election). Ashraf Ansari filed his nomination on behalf of the LJP (Ram Vilas), while Sunil Kumar Singh is the RJD candidate.
JD(U) candidate Bharti Mehta also expressed her appreciation, stating, “We are grateful for the blessings of our leader Nitish Kumar, who has supported workers like us. He introduced women’s reservation in panchayats and has now ensured 50 per cent representation in the Legislative Council, showing that daughters of Bihar are ready for equality.”

In this election, each seat requires the support of 25 MLAs. With the NDA commanding the backing of 201 legislators, its nine candidates are expected to secure victory comfortably without a contest. The remaining seat is likely to go to the RJD candidate without difficulty.
Meanwhile, Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash did not file a nomination, sparking speculation that he may soon resign from his ministerial post, as he is not currently a member of either House.
Reacting to the situation, Rashtriya Lok Morcha state president Alok Singh said, “The decision will be taken by the top leadership. Why are you asking us? The party’s national president will decide who will become a minister.”
