Patna: The second day of the two-day inter-school chess tournament “Checkmate 2026”, held at Delhi Public School, Patna East, unfolded with great excitement and competitive spirit. The presence of Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari and Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, Joint Secretary of the Patna High Court Advocates’ Association and BJP State Spokesperson, as chief guests added prestige to the occasion.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the chief guests, along with Pro Vice-Chairman Amit Prakash, Principal Dr Rakesh Alfred, and Deputy Head Mohammad Ashfaq Iqbal. The closing ceremony, marked by vibrant cultural performances, filled participants and spectators alike with enthusiasm and joy.
Participants showcased exceptional strategic ability, concentration and sportsmanship throughout the event, which was held on May 8 and 9 on the school campus. Around 400 students from 15 different schools took part with great zeal.

The final rounds on the second day were highly intense and competitive. Players impressed both judges and spectators with their thoughtful moves, patience and mental composure, making each match a fine display of intellectual and strategic excellence.
The school management emphasised that chess is not merely a game, but a powerful tool for developing decision-making skills, problem-solving ability, discipline and self-confidence. Such events encourage healthy competition and logical thinking among students.
During the valedictory ceremony, winners were honoured with trophies, medals and certificates. Delhi Public School, Patna East emerged as the overall champion, while Litera Valley School secured the runner-up position. All participants were appreciated for their commendable participation and sportsmanship.

The Principal congratulated the winners and participants, stating that such competitions play a vital role in the holistic development of students and prepare them for future challenges.
The successful conclusion of “Checkmate 2026” was a matter of pride for the school, once again providing a platform to nurture students’ intellectual talent and competitive spirit.
