Patna: The Bihar government has taken a significant decision regarding former Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha, downgrading his security from Z+ category to Z category. The move follows a meeting of the State Security Committee, where the protection levels of political leaders were reviewed.
Previously, Sinha was provided with high-level Z+ security. However, based on a fresh threat assessment, the government has scaled it down, meaning fewer security personnel will now accompany him compared to earlier arrangements.
Meanwhile, Nishant Kumar has been granted Z category security for the first time. In addition, fromer minister Shravan Kumar has been accorded Y+ category protection, ensuring enhanced police deployment for his safety.
The government stated that these decisions were taken strictly on the basis of inputs from security agencies and the prevailing threat perception. Such revisions, officials noted, are routine and aimed at maintaining an effective and balanced security framework.
In a separate order issued on Friday, the Home Department also announced Z category security for the state’s two new Deputy Chief Ministers, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav, following recommendations from the Security Committee. Given their key roles in the government, their security cover has been enhanced.
With Z category protection, both leaders will now be accompanied by an increased number of security personnel. Strict surveillance will be maintained at their residences, during travel, and at public engagements. Authorities have directed the police and concerned departments to implement the arrangements immediately.
Z category security is considered a high level of protection in India, typically involving around 22 personnel, including police and paramilitary forces, with round-the-clock cover, escort vehicles, and access to modern weaponry.
