Patna: Panic gripped the area near the Patliputra Sports Complex under Kankarbagh police station limits on Saturday after a 25-year-old youth was abducted in a dramatic manner. The victim has been identified as Sumit Kumar, a resident of Prithvipur Chiraiyatand, who is preparing for competitive examinations. Acting swiftly, the police rescued the youth within two hours of the incident.
According to police, Sumit Kumar was standing near the Patliputra Sports Complex when unidentified miscreants arrived on a motorcycle. They forcibly made him sit on the bike and, a short distance away, pushed him into a car before fleeing the spot. The abduction was carried out so swiftly that before bystanders could grasp what had happened, the criminals had already escaped.
The incident was witnessed by a youth residing in a nearby slum, who immediately informed Kankarbagh police station. Upon receiving the alert, police rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area was examined, the suspects’ locations were tracked, and an intensive checking drive was initiated across the city.
Multiple police teams pursued the accused for nearly two hours. Eventually, police cordoned off the Bahadurpur area. Realising they were trapped, the miscreants abandoned Sumit Kumar on the roadside near Bahadurpur Bagiya and fled. The police reached the spot soon after and safely recovered the victim.
Sumit Kumar told the police that five persons were involved in the abduction—three travelling in a car and two on a motorcycle. He also alleged that he was assaulted during the ordeal, though he did not sustain any serious injuries.
Police suspect the abduction may be linked to an old dispute that occurred about 10 days ago during an argument over tea.
ASP Sadar Abhinav Kumar said that the victim has not yet provided clear and concrete details regarding the incident. “The police are investigating the matter thoroughly. A motorcycle has been recovered from near the spot, and efforts are on to identify the accused on the basis of its registration number,” he said.
The exact motive behind the abduction will become clear only after the arrest of the accused. All suspects are currently absconding, and raids are being conducted to nab them. Police have assured that the case will be cracked soon.
