Shyam Rajak Resigns from RJD, Hints at Joining New Party Amid Speculation

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) national general secretary Shyam Rajak resigned from the party on Thursday, marking the second time he has become disillusioned with RJD. While addressing the media after his resignation, Rajak expressed his frustration, stating, “I always maintained the relationship, but the top leaders of RJD kept playing chess pieces, and ultimately, I had to leave the party.” When asked about his future plans, he indicated that he would soon announce which party he intends to join.

Rajak emphasised that the Dalits, minorities, and backward caste people of Phulwari have always stood by him in his political journey. He expressed his desire for these communities to work towards his vision, adding, “I will join a party to fulfil my vision. If this does not happen, then I will retire from politics.”

Rajak revealed that within a week, he would clarify which party he is joining. He insisted that his decision was made in the best interest of the people of Phulwari. This statement has sparked speculation that he will soon align himself with a new political party, though he has yet to disclose which one.

According to sources, it is believed that Shyam Rajak is likely to join Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)] shortly. In his statement, he also expressed a desire to contest elections from Phulwari again. If he had remained with RJD, contesting from Phulwari might not have been possible, as the seat is currently held by the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation [CPIML] as part of the Mahagathbandhan alliance. CPIML’s Gopal Ravidas is the sitting MLA from Phulwari. Speculation is rife that Rajak could soon rejoin JD(U).

Reacting to Rajak’s departure, Leader of the Opposition and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav dismissed concerns about the impact on the party, stating, “This will not affect the health of RJD. Wherever Shyam Rajak stays, he should stay well. If he has left RJD, then he has left. What is there to say about it? We have nothing more to comment. Elections are coming, and everyone decides for themselves whether to go somewhere or not. RJD is not going to be affected by all this.”
