Patna, June 4: Patna defeated Vaishali by four wickets in the Shyamal Sinha Inter District Under-16 Cricket Tournament, thanks to the half-century of Player of the Match Piyush Kumar (58 runs, 50 balls, 9 fours) and the bowlers.
Vaishali won the toss and chose to bat first. The start was horrible. Three wickets fell, yielding 22 runs. In the first over, Prince Dubey dealt Vaishali a double blow. He sent opener Prem to the pavilion for four runs, then on the next ball, he returned Jayant Raj to the pavilion without opening his account. Following this, Vaishali recovered and scored 163 runs despite losing all wickets in 36.4 overs.
Vaishali’s Manish Kumar scored 39 runs in 53 balls with four fours and one six, Piyush Kumar scored 14, Roshan scored 22 runs in 28 balls with four fours, Kashif Alam scored 26, and Prince Raj scored 35 runs in 46 balls with four fours. Extras accounted for 10 runs.
Patna’s Kartik Pandey grabbed three wickets, Prince Dubey and Krish Kumar each got two, while Piyush Kumar, Priyanshu Kumar Pratik, and Rohit Pandey each took one.
Patna, too, got off to a poor start. Three wickets fell for 29 runs. Following this, Rohit gained Anmol’s support, and the two had a significant 46-run partnership. Patna’s fourth wicket fell to Anmol. Anmol was removed after scoring 31 runs off 25 balls, including six fours. Abhinav Sinha was also removed after scoring only two runs. At the moment, the squad had scored 82 runs. Patna’s sixth blow, in the person of Rohit, added only four runs to the team’s tally. Rohit scored 34 runs from 41 balls, including six fours. Patna was on the verge of defeat after this, but Rohit Pandey and Piyush Kumar held on and went undefeated, giving Patna its second consecutive win. Satyam Raj grabbed three wickets while Hrithik Kumar Giri took two for Vaishali’s side. Piyush of Patna was named Player of the Match.
