Patna, May 28: Police have apprehended one of the two suspects implicated in the Harsh Raj murder case, both of whom are also students. The motive behind the student’s murder has surfaced, revealing a dispute stemming from a Dandiya Night event held at Miller School Ground some time ago. Reports suggest that Harsh was involved in a confrontation with fellow students during this event, leading to his tragic demise on Monday. Harsh Raj, a student of BN College at Patna University, succumbed to fatal injuries sustained in the altercation. Law enforcement has initiated proceedings in the case.
The apprehended suspect, identified as Chandan Yadav, is a final year BA student at Patna College and resides at Jackson Hostel. Chandan was apprehended from his residence in Amhara village, Bihta, within Patna district. Police raids are underway across four districts to apprehend the remaining suspects. During interrogation, Chandan disclosed the identities of eight individuals involved in the incident, prompting police actions in Supaul, Saharsa, Begusarai, and Nalanda.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in the Ashok Rajpath area following Harsh Raj’s murder, prompting a heavy police presence. Additional law enforcement personnel have been deployed alongside units from multiple police stations. Hundreds of protesting students marched from Patna College to Kargil Chowk, prompting police intervention with baton charges to disperse the crowd.
Harsh Raj, a final year student at BN College, was en route to Patna Law College for an examination when he was ambushed by assailants upon exiting the exam hall. He sustained severe injuries from the assault and was rushed to PMCH unconscious, where he was pronounced dead by attending medical staff. A video depicting the assault has emerged, shedding light on the brutality of the incident, which has drawn political reactions.
Notably, the deceased, Harsh Raj, had affiliations with the political sphere, being closely associated with Bihar government minister Ashok Chaudhary’s family. Ashok Chaudhary’s daughter, Shambhavi Chaudhary, regarded Harsh as a brother, and he actively participated in her election campaign in Samastipur. Harsh aspired to contest the Patna University Students Union elections.
