Patna: A fierce encounter broke out between police and a dreaded criminal in Masaurhi, on the outskirts of Patna, in the early hours of Thursday. During the exchange of fire, a shooter was shot in the leg and subsequently arrested. Police recovered a 9 mm pistol from his possession.
The encounter took place near Lala Bigha Mor under the Masaurhi police station area around dawn. Acting under ‘Operation Langda’, Bihar Police fired at the criminal’s right leg to immobilise him.
According to police, the accused has been identified as Parmanand Yadav (23), a resident of Chater Chandwa in Latehar district of Jharkhand. He is wanted in nearly three dozen criminal cases registered across Bihar and Jharkhand.

East City Superintendent of Police Parichay Kumar said the incident occurred early on Thursday morning. He stated that some criminals had earlier been apprehended by Beur police, while one suspect managed to flee towards Jehanabad. Following this, Beur police alerted Masaurhi police, who immediately began vehicle checks on NH-22.
Between 4 am and 4.30 am, police signalled a suspicious motorcyclist to stop. However, the rider attempted to escape. During the chase, he lost control and fell on the road along with his motorcycle.
SP Kumar said that the accused then pulled out a weapon and opened fire at the police team. In self-defence, police retaliated, during which the criminal sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was rushed to hospital for treatment. A 9 mm pistol was recovered from him.
Police said Parmanand Yadav is involved in several serious offences, including murder, robbery and cases under the Arms Act. He is also believed to have links with Rahul Singh, who is associated with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
Officials revealed that Yadav is a key operative of the international Lawrence Bishnoi gang and is suspected to be its Bihar in-charge. Acting on specific intelligence inputs that he had arrived in Patna to carry out a major crime, police launched a coordinated operation and laid a cordon in the area.
