Patna Municipal Corporation Issues Notices for Unassessed Flats, Warns of Penalties for Non-payment of Property Tax

Patna: In the capital city of Patna, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified approximately 26,000 flats that have not been assessed for property or holding tax. This means that tax obligations for these flats have not been determined, and consequently, no payments have been made to the corporation. In response, the PMC has issued notices to the residents of these unassessed flats, instructing them to submit the required information to the corporation.

The notices were dispatched on 26 August, giving flat owners until 30 September to comply. For those who failed to meet this deadline, the corporation is now preparing to impose penalties, which could be as high as 100% of the unpaid tax amount. Alongside the collection of property tax, the PMC is conducting new property tax assessments at the flats’ locations. Citizens have the option to complete their property assessments both online and offline. Online payments can be made by visiting the website www.pmc.bihar.gov.in.

To facilitate in-person property tax assessments, a counter operates from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm at the Municipal Corporation headquarters and zonal offices, where individuals can have their property tax assessed and make payments on the spot.

The issue is particularly concentrated in Ward 28, which spans the area from Station Road to Fraser Road. Out of 11,068 flats in this ward, 2,552 have not yet been assessed. Similarly, in wards 2, 7, 22, and 23, there are 36,420 flats in total, of which 9,185 remain unassessed. Across all 75 wards of Patna, a total of 26,000 flats still lack property tax assessments, resulting in significant unpaid taxes to the corporation.
