Patna High Court Denies Immediate Relief to RLJP, Orders Fresh Housing Application

By Neeraj Kumar
Patna: The Patna High Court has declined to provide interim relief to the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) regarding vacating its current premises. However, the court has allowed the party to apply for a fresh housing allotment. Justice Mohit Kumar Shah, presiding over the matter, directed the authorities to take action on the new application within two weeks in accordance with the law.

The petition was filed by RLJP and state vice president Ambika Prasad, seeking relief from the order to vacate the premises. Senior advocate Y.V. Giri, representing the petitioners, informed the court that they were withdrawing the petition. However, he urged the state government to promptly consider allotting a new office building for the party’s operations.

The court granted the party until November 13 to vacate its current office on One Wheeler Road, Peer Ali Khan Marg. Additionally, it directed the government to make a decision on the RLJP’s request for a new office space within two weeks.

The office, which had been allocated by the Bihar government’s Building Construction Department, is being reclaimed under an order issued on October 22, 2024. The notice invoked powers under Section 4 of the Bihar Government Act, 1956, instructing the party to vacate the premises within seven days. If the office was not vacated by November 1, the department warned it would proceed with forcible eviction.

Following the court’s decision to extend the stay until November 13, RLJP spokesperson Shravan Agrawal acknowledged the order, stating: “We respect the court’s decision and look forward to receiving a new office allocation soon.”

Pawan Kumar, legal counsel for RLJP leader Pashupati Kumar Paras, confirmed that after the court’s directive, the party would now have to vacate the existing premises but hoped the government would honour the fresh application swiftly.

This case highlights the ongoing tension between regional political parties and state authorities over access to government-allotted office spaces.
