Patna: The Patna High Court has postponed the hearing of a petition concerning pending criminal cases against former and sitting MPs and MLAs in Bihar to 17th January 2025. A division bench headed by Chief Justice KV Chandran is overseeing the case.

During the last hearing, it was informed that a report on these cases had been submitted. Previously, the court had instructed District Judges across the state to actively monitor these cases and submit a progress report within six weeks.

In an earlier directive, the court issued key guidelines, urging District Judges to convene meetings with District Magistrates, stakeholders, and Superintendents of Police to ensure the expedited hearing of these cases. The court also emphasised the need for systematic efforts to address the backlog of cases involving lawmakers.

Notably, the High Court has been consistent in issuing guidelines to accelerate the resolution of these pending cases, reflecting the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring accountability and justice. The next hearing in this matter has now been scheduled for 17th January 2025.
