Patna: Patna Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warwade has instructed the District Transport Officers (DTOs) of all six districts in the division to hold regular meetings of the District Road Safety Committee and Child Transport Committee in their respective areas. He also announced a campaign to inspect school vehicles across all districts.
During a meeting held at the Commissioner’s office on Friday, Warwade outlined key safety measures for school transport. He emphasised that school buses and other vehicles used for transporting children must be painted golden yellow. Additionally, it is mandatory to install CCTV cameras in school buses, with footage being retained for 60 days by the school management. However, this requirement does not apply to smaller vehicles with fewer than 14 seats.
Further safety features include speed governors with a maximum speed limit of 40 km/h, first aid boxes, and fire extinguishers. All vehicles must be equipped with Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), panic buttons, and GPS, along with retro-reflective tape. School buses and other vehicles transporting children will be registered as commercial passenger vehicles.
For smaller commercial vehicles regularly used for carrying schoolchildren, it is mandatory to display signs reading “School Van” or “On School Duty” clearly on both the front and rear of the vehicles.
