Patna: Bihar Agriculture Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha, has reassured farmers that there is currently no shortage of fertilisers in any district of the state. He said that Bihar has sufficient stock available and that farmers are being continuously encouraged through awareness campaigns to use fertilisers in balanced quantities, based on their actual needs.
The Minister emphasised that the department remains fully alert to ensure there is no scarcity. At present, adequate stocks of various fertilisers are available across the state. These include 2.35 lakh metric tonnes of urea, 4.56 lakh metric tonnes of DAP, 8.82 lakh metric tonnes of NPK, 1.71 lakh metric tonnes of MOP, and 1.17 lakh metric tonnes of SSP.
Sinha made it clear that the government is following a strict “zero tolerance” policy against black marketing, hoarding, and overpricing of fertilisers. To enforce this, flying squads formed at the headquarters level, along with inspection teams led by district agriculture officers, are carrying out continuous checks.
As part of strict action taken during the 2026–27 financial year (up to 10 June 2026), a total of 43 fertiliser establishments have had FIRs registered against them for irregularities. Additionally, licences of 213 establishments have been cancelled with immediate effect.
Authorities are also rigorously verifying the quantity of fertilisers displayed on PoS machines against the actual physical stock available at outlets. The Minister warned that any discrepancies found at any level would result in stringent legal action against the concerned establishments.
Special vigilance is being maintained in districts bordering the international boundary to curb smuggling and black marketing of fertilisers. The Agriculture Department is working in close coordination with the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), with inspection teams conducting regular raids and surveillance.
In the current financial year (up to June 10, 2026), in border districts alone, FIRs have been registered against 19 fertiliser establishments, while licences of 123 establishments have been cancelled.
The Minister has also directed officials to ensure that sub-allocation of fertilisers at the block level is carried out based on coverage and actual demand. He appealed to farmers to remain vigilant and report any instances of black marketing or hoarding to the department promptly, so that swift action can be taken against offenders.
