Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday visited Bans Ghat in Patna to pay tributes to his mother-in-law, Vidyawati Devi. Accompanied by his son Nishant Kumar, Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary and several JD(U) leaders, the Chief Minister offered his last respects.
Vidyawati Devi had been unwell for a long time and was undergoing treatment at IGIMS. She passed away on Friday evening, December 19, at the age of 90. The Chief Minister’s in-laws reside in the PC Colony area of Kankarbagh in Patna.
Nitish Kumar had been regularly visiting his ailing mother-in-law to enquire about her health. His father-in-law, Krishnanandan Sinha, had passed away seven years ago. He was a high school teacher by profession.
Expressing his grief, Nishant Kumar shared an emotional post on social media, saying he was deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved grandmother. He wrote that she was not just a grandmother, but a source of warmth and affection, whose stories, love and smile would always be cherished.

“You taught me lessons of love and goodness. I promise never to forget your teachings. Wherever you are, remain happy and bless us,” Nishant wrote, praying for peace to her soul.
As soon as the Chief Minister received the news of his mother-in-law’s demise, he rushed to Bans Ghat for the final rites. Nitish Kumar and Nishant Kumar bid an emotional farewell with moist eyes. Several NDA leaders also arrived to pay their last respects.
The Chief Minister’s wife, Manju Sinha, who was a teacher, passed away in 2007 during treatment. Nishant Kumar has shared a close bond with his maternal family and lived with them for a long period. Even now, he is often seen visiting his maternal relatives on various occasions.
