Players concentrating on their moves in Bihar U-7 Chess Championship in Patna.

Patna: The Bihar State Under-7 Boys’ and Girls’ Chess Championship commenced today at Pleasant Valley School in Sandalpur, Patna. After the completion of two rounds on the opening day, nine players are jointly leading the standings with two points each. Among them are top seed and six-year-old FIDE-rated player Rudra Pratap from Saharsa, along with second seed Bhavyansh Anantajit from Patna.
In the girls’ category, Prisha Shukla of Banka, Aavya Srivastava of Bhojpur, and Patna’s Adheera and Anvi are jointly in the lead with a perfect score of two points after two rounds. Samaira from Muzaffarpur and Aadya Sagar of Patna are placed jointly second with 1.5 points each.
Earlier in the day, the three-day tournament was formally inaugurated at 11:00 a.m. by the chief guests, Diljeet Khanna, President of the All Bihar Chess Association, and Lalan Singh, Director of Pleasant Valley School. The event was opened with a ceremonial lamp-lighting and a friendly game played with young participants.
A total of 55 players from 18 districts are competing in the championship, showcasing their intellectual skills. The tournament, scheduled to conclude on April 30, will serve as the basis for selecting players to represent Bihar at the national level.

Addressing the participants, Mr Khanna stated that the All Bihar Chess Association remains committed to providing better opportunities for young players across the state and is making every possible effort in this regard.
In his address, Lalan Kumar Singh reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to promoting sports, particularly chess, and expressed his intention to continue encouraging such events in the future.
Among those present on the occasion were school manager Chandrashekhar Azad, Association Vice-President Jai Prakash Sinha, Joint Secretary Shivpriya Bhardwaj, Chief Arbiter Shashinand Kumar, Deputy Chief Arbiter Manish Kumar, International Arbiter Alok Priyadarshi, Assistant Arbiter Jahnavi Raj, along with teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and players.
