Modernization of Patna Airport: New Terminal to Offer Enhanced Passenger Experience

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Air passengers arriving in Patna will soon enjoy a host of modern facilities aimed at improving their travel experience. The upcoming terminal at Patna airport will feature three new conveyor belts, ensuring quicker baggage retrieval for passengers. Installation of these belts is set to begin next month.

In addition, five new aerobridges will be constructed at the front of the new terminal building. However, these will only be built after the current terminal is demolished, meaning that passengers will temporarily need to use stairs for boarding and disembarking until the aerobridges are operational.

For those departing from Patna, a travellator will connect the parking area to the terminal building, enhancing convenience. The five-storey parking structure will have ramps and four lifts, making it easier for passengers to move between levels. The travellator, encased with glass panels on both sides, will offer passengers a scenic view of the airport complex as they make their way to the first-floor arrival area. It will accommodate passengers with hand luggage, large baggage, suitcases, and strollers, making the 300-meter journey comfortable and enjoyable.

The airport’s operational efficiency is also set to improve with the introduction of parallel taxi tracks, which will reduce runway occupancy time to just one and a half minutes post-landing. This will allow for flight operations every two to three minutes, a significant improvement from the current five-minute interval.

Furthermore, 10 new parking bays will be constructed on the apron side of the new terminal building, replacing the existing bays once the current terminal is demolished. The construction of these parking bays is expected to take seven to eight months, after which the four existing bays will be dismantled.

Overall, these upgrades mark a significant step forward in modernizing Patna airport, offering passengers a more efficient and pleasant travel experience.
