Patna: The membership of RJD MLC Sunil Kumar Singh has been terminated based on the Ethics Committee’s report. Bihar Legislative Council Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh ordered action following the committee’s investigation into allegations of mimicry of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Another RJD member, Qari Sohaib, has been suspended for two days during the next session for his involvement in the same incident.
Sunil Kumar Singh faced accusations of mocking CM Nitish Kumar, with both Singh and Qari Sohaib found guilty based on the investigation report. Rabri Devi criticized the decision, claiming it as a blow to democracy and an attempt to silence voices raised for the people of Bihar. She further alleged bias in government job allocations, favoring residents of Nalanda district.
The incident traces back to February 13, 2024, when during Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s address in the House, Sunil Singh allegedly made objectionable remarks and mimicked the Chief Minister. JD(U) MLC Bhishma Sahni lodged a complaint, leading to an Ethics Committee investigation chaired by Professor Ramvachan Rai. The report confirmed the allegations against Sunil Singh and recommended action, resulting in his dismissal from the Legislative Council on Friday. Qari Sohaib’s suspension for two days was also confirmed.
During the announcement in the House by Chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Sunil Kumar Singh attempted to present his case but was denied the opportunity. Sunil Singh, closely associated with Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi, is currently the treasurer of RJD and chairman of Biscomaun. He has been a member of the Bihar Legislative Council since 2020.
Sunil Singh argued that his membership termination was a conspiracy to suppress issues concerning the poor, minorities, and the unemployed. He asserted that his leader Tejashwi Yadav and National President Lalu Prasad Yadav would decide the next course of action.
