Patna: Radha Kumari, a resident of Danapur Takiya in Patna, has emerged as a symbol of courage and determination. Bihar’s first physically challenged delivery girl, Radha, has proven that disability is not a limitation. A graduate and a dedicated professional, she supports her family by working as a delivery agent, completing 8 to 10 deliveries daily and often working late into the night, sometimes until midnight.
Shattering Stereotypes
In a profession traditionally dominated by men, Radha has carved a unique path for herself. Despite being disabled in both legs, she has strengthened her family’s financial situation and inspired other women in Bihar to explore unconventional career opportunities.
Radha shares, “After my father’s death, the responsibility of the household fell on me. Despite facing rejections during job interviews due to my disability, I didn’t lose hope. Today, I not only support my family but also motivate others to overcome challenges.”
A Gruelling Routine
Radha works tirelessly for 10 to 12 hours daily, often enduring hardships. She recalls times when she worked long hours after eating only basic meals like roti and salt. However, her perseverance has brought her recognition and respect.
Achievements in Sports
In addition to her delivery work, Radha is an accomplished athlete. She has won a bronze medal in rugby and aspires to improve her game further. Radha hopes to receive a sports tricycle to enhance her training.
A Call for Support
Radha expresses her gratitude towards her company for their encouragement and recognition. She also appeals to the government to increase pension amounts and provide more employment opportunities for the disabled, stating, “If disabled individuals are given jobs, they too can lead better lives.”
Radha Kumari’s story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination, inspiring countless others to challenge societal norms and pursue their dreams.
