Patna: In a significant breakthrough under its ongoing drive against crime and drug abuse, Patna Police have seized a large quantity of heroin and illegal foreign liquor in coordinated raids across the city. Several alleged traffickers, including women, have been arrested.
Acting on a tip-off from the Prohibition and State Narcotics Bureau, Bihar, a team from Chowk police station carried out raids in Harmandir Gali and nearby areas. Police had received specific information that a man and a woman were transporting a consignment of narcotics in the locality. Swift action led to the arrest of Renu Devi (45) and Vikas Kumar (25).
During the search, police recovered 36 grams of heroin, a Vivo mobile phone and ₹1,100 in cash from Renu Devi. From Vikas Kumar, police seized 24 grams of heroin, an Infinix mobile phone and ₹1,200 in cash. Based on a complaint filed by Sub-Inspector Laxman Kumar, an FIR (Case No. 254/26) has been registered at Chowk police station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.
In a separate operation aimed at enforcing the state’s prohibition laws, police conducted another raid near Dhalbalpura TOP. Acting on intelligence inputs, officers arrested Baby Devi and Poonam Devi, recovering 14 bottles of Royal Stag whisky and 11 bottles of Smirnoff vodka. The total quantity of seized liquor is said to exceed 21 litres.
During a vehicle checking drive in the same area, police also apprehended Kailash Rai with 15 bottles of foreign liquor. In another raid based on confidential information in the Morcha Road Musahari locality, 46 litres of locally brewed mahua liquor were seized.
Police officials said the crackdown on drug trafficking and illegal liquor trade will continue with full force across the city.
The operation was carried out by a team from Chowk police station, including Sub-Inspector Soni Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Laxman Kumar, woman constable Baby Kumari and BHG Upendra Kumar.
Officials added that those arrested are being interrogated to identify other members of the network and trace the main suppliers of the narcotics.
