Patna: The Bihar Postal Chess Tournament, organised under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association with support from the Bihar Postal Department, concluded today. Kumar Gaurav from Araria claimed the winner’s title, while Rupesh B. Ramchandra from Patna finished as the runner-up.
The two-day rapid chess tournament, decided after nine rounds, saw Kumar Gaurav and Rupesh both score eight points. The title was awarded to Kumar Gaurav on tie-break points. Abhishek Sonu from Muzaffarpur, who accumulated seven and a half points, secured third place.
In the final round held today, Kumar Gaurav, playing with the white pieces on the top board, defeated Vipal Subhashi. Meanwhile, Rupesh, with black pieces, triumphed over Tabshir Alam on board two, also making a strong bid for the title, which was ultimately determined by tie-break.
The prize distribution ceremony saw dignitaries including Director General of Posts Anil Kumar, M. Ramachandradu (IAS), Manoj Kumar Sharma (IRS), Director of Posts Pawan Kumar, and Dharmendra Kumar, Secretary of the All Bihar Chess Association, presenting cash prizes and trophies to the winners.
Tournament Director Shashi Nand Kumar conducted the event, while Sohan Kumar extended the vote of thanks.
