Patna: Leaders and workers of the India Alliance staged a protest march against the rising crime rates in Bihar, starting from the Income Tax roundabout to the district magistrate’s office in Patna. Waving party flags and chanting anti-government slogans, the protesters faced police barricades but pushed forward, resulting in a scuffle with the police.
Bihar Pradesh Congress President Akhilesh Singh criticized the government for its silence on increasing criminal incidents, despite holding high-level meetings. He questioned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, accusing him of prioritizing votes over public safety and warning of consequences in the upcoming 2025 assembly elections.
Singh emphasized that the protest march represented the concerns of the people of Bihar regarding the rising crime rates. He mentioned that similar protests and memorandums were submitted to district magistrates across Bihar. The demonstration included participation from Congress, RJD, and Left parties.
Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed accused the police administration of trying to suppress the demonstration. He declared that the opposition would not be silenced and would continue to hold the government accountable. Ahmed also criticized the police for focusing on liquor arrests instead of addressing criminal activities.
The protest follows the murder of Jitan Sahni, father of former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahni, which has intensified the opposition’s criticism of the Nitish government. The opposition alleges that the government remains silent on criminal incidents and organized state-wide demonstrations on Friday to voice their concerns.
During the protest, India Alliance leaders took to the streets, raising their voices against the Nitish government’s handling of law and order, and demanded immediate action to curb the rising crime in Bihar.
