IIT Patna Unveils Open Gym After 16 Years, Promoting Fitness and Well-Being

Patna: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna, located in Bihta, has inaugurated its first open gym after 16 years of establishment. The facility was launched by IIT Patna Director, Professor T.N. Singh, who highlighted the institution’s commitment to fostering a balanced lifestyle among its community.

Speaking at the inauguration, Professor Singh stated that the open gym would enable students and staff to prioritise their physical fitness. “This facility is a step towards helping individuals achieve their fitness goals, reflecting the institute’s focus on promoting both physical and mental well-being,” he said.

The open gym is equipped with modern fitness equipment to cater to diverse workout needs, including strength training and cardiovascular exercises. Notable installations include a double chest press, arm wheel, rowing machine, triple twister, cross trainer, bridge ladder, weightlifting station, air walker, leg press, abdominal bench, horse rider station, and bicycle station.

“This initiative aligns with IIT Patna’s commitment to improving the overall lifestyle of its community, balancing physical fitness with academic excellence. The gym provides an ideal environment for fitness enthusiasts to achieve their goals,” added Professor Singh.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Yogendra Singh (Superintending Engineer and Project Director), R.N. Singh (Executive Engineer and Senior Manager, Central Public Works Department, Patna), Professor A.K. Thakur (Dean, Academics and Administration), Dr P.K. Tiwari (Associate Dean, Student Welfare), Dr Anup Keshari (Associate Dean, Research and Development), and Dr Arvind Kumar Jha (Head, Infrastructure Works Department). Faculty members and senior officials of IIT Patna and the Central Public Works Department were also present on the occasion.
