Patna: By-elections are set to be held for four seats in the Bihar Assembly. In this context, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) has announced its candidate for the Imamganj assembly seat in Gaya, selecting Deepa Manjhi as the successor to Jitan Ram Manjhi. Once again, Jitan Ram Manjhi has opted to place his trust in family over party workers for this seat.

Former Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi previously served as the MLA for the Naxal-affected Imamganj constituency. Following his transition to MP, by-elections are now being conducted for this assembly seat. Deepa Manjhi, the wife of Minister Santosh Suman and daughter-in-law of Jitan Ram Manjhi, has been named the candidate for HAM.

The decision came after a thorough brainstorming session within the party, culminating in a parliamentary board meeting that deliberated for an extended period before finalising the candidate. Although Jitan Ram Manjhi initially expressed a desire to field a party worker, HAM’s national president, Santosh Suman, remained resolute in supporting his wife, Deepa Manjhi. Ultimately, her candidacy was confirmed, and she will represent HAM in the Imamganj seat during the by-election.
