Patna: Cybercrime cases are on the rise in Bihar, with numerous cybercriminals targeting both common people and VIPs. The latest case involves the Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar, Pratyaya Amrit, whose name has been used in a fraud scheme. Cyber thugs have been impersonating Amrit to deceive officials within his own department.

The fraudsters are using WhatsApp to make calls with Pratyaya Amrit’s photo as the display picture and demanding money from officials. The calls, made from a number displaying Amrit’s image, have even duped IAS officers. In response, Pratyaya Amrit has lodged a complaint with the DIG of the Economic Offences Unit, highlighting that large sums of money are being requested through these messages. An FIR has been registered, and Inspector Sanjeev Kumar has been assigned to investigate the case.

Pratyaya Amrit, a 1991 batch IAS officer from Gopalganj, Bihar, is well-known for his contributions to infrastructure development, road connectivity, and power supply. He also gained recognition for his exemplary work as Chief Secretary in the Health Department during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2011, he was honored with the Prime Minister’s Excellence Award in Public Administration by the Government of India.
