Condolences Pour In as Bihar Mourns the Loss of Sushil Kumar Modi

Mortal remains of Sushil Kumar Modi consigned to flames

Patna, May 14: Sushil Kumar Modi, former Bihar deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader, passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Monday following an eight-month battle with cancer. He was 72.

Modi’s mortal remains were flown to Patna on Tuesday afternoon via a special plane. Upon arrival, the body was taken to his residence in Rajendra Nagar, as well as to the state legislature premises and BJP office, allowing leaders to pay their final respects. Subsequently, the last rites were performed at Digha Ghat in the presence of BJP president JP Nadda and other dignitaries.

Politicians from across party lines expressed their grief over Modi’s demise, describing it as an irreparable loss for Bihar politics. President Droupdi Murmu conveyed her condolences, highlighting Modi’s gentle nature, skilled administration, and integrity in public life. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned the loss of his longtime friend and valued colleague, recognizing Modi’s significant contributions to the rise of the BJP in Bihar and his pivotal role in student politics during the Emergency and the passage of GST.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah lamented the loss of a pioneer in Bihar politics, emphasizing Modi’s dedication to the welfare of the poor and marginalized. BJP national president JP Nadda praised Modi’s lifelong commitment to Bihar, while Defense Minister Rajnath Singh lauded his tireless efforts for the state’s development.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath commended Modi’s lifelong service to the country and society, expressing his condolences to the bereaved family. Similarly, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav mourned the loss of a dedicated leader and recalled their association from their days in student politics.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad remembered his decades-long association with Modi from their time in the Patna University Students’ Union, praising his resilience and dedication to social and political causes. Bihar Congress president Akhilesh Prasad Singh also expressed deep sadness over Modi’s sudden demise, extending his sympathies to the grieving family.
