Cold Intensifies in Bihar as Westerly Winds and Fog Set In

By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: Bihar is witnessing a shift in weather patterns, with mornings and evenings becoming increasingly chilly in several districts over the past two days. The Meteorological Department has forecasted fog in Purnia and surrounding areas on Sunday morning, with a yellow alert issued for the region. The evening is also expected to see some fog.

According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the cold is likely to intensify this week due to westerly winds and a new western disturbance. The minimum temperature is expected to drop by 2–3°C in the coming days, further increasing the chill across the state.

This change in weather has begun to impact public health, with private clinics and hospitals reporting a surge in patients, especially children and the elderly. Doctors warn that the season poses a higher risk of cold-related illnesses in children, while the elderly are more prone to cold, cough, fever, diarrhoea, and body aches. Reports indicate a 20% rise in elderly and child patients seeking treatment in private clinics.

Residents are advised to take precautions as the cold is expected to increase further next week.
