Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party parliamentary board on Sunday (December 14) appointed Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as its national working president, signalling a renewed focus on strengthening the party’s internal structure ahead of the next phase of political mobilisation.
The announcement was formally communicated by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh. “BJP Parliamentary Board has appointed Shri Nitin Nabin, Cabinet Minister, Bihar government as National Working President of the party. This appointment comes into immediate effect, ” Singh said in a notification.
Soon after, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin, a prominent young leader from Bihar, describing him as a committed and disciplined party worker who has consistently delivered both in organisation-building and governance.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi said, “Shri Nitin Nabin Ji has distinguished himself as a hardworking Karyakarta. He is a young and industrious leader with rich organisational experience and has an impressive record as MLA as well as Minister in Bihar for multiple terms. He has diligently worked to fulfil people’s aspirations. He is known for his humble nature and grounded style of working. I am confident that his energy and dedication will strengthen our Party in the times to come. Congratulations to him on becoming the BJP National Working President.”
Celebrated broke out at the BJP’s state office in Patna immediately after the announcement with party leaders and workers congratulating each other, bursting firecrackers, distributing sweets and dancing to the beats of drums and traditional instruments.
Congratulating Nabin, Bihar BJP president and industry minister Dilip Jaiswal said the state had received the gift of the NDA’s massive victory in the recently held Assembly elections. He said a leader from the Bihar had been appointed as national working president for the first time, which was a matter of pride for the state.
Nabin’s elevation is being considered as a move to bring leaders with strong organisational grounding and electoral credibility into the national leadership framework.
Currently, the Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing minister in Bihar, Nabin has been associated with the execution of several major infrastructure initiatives, particularly in road connectivity and urban renewal.
According to senior party leaders Nabin’s ability to handle demanding portfolios while maintaining close links with the organisation contributed to his selection as BJP’s national working president.
Nabin’s political strength is also reflected in his electoral record. He has been elected five consecutive times from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Patna, one of the most closely watched urban seats in Bihar. In the 2025 Assembly elections that were held in November, he retained the seat, defeating his nearest rival by more than 50,000 votes.
The organisational reshuffle in the BJP comes at a moment when the party is recalibrating its top leadership structure. Party president JP Nadda, who took over the role in early 2020, has already completed his term also welcomed Nabin’s appointment, calling him a capable and energetic leader, and expressed confidence that the party would benefit from his organisational skills.
Born in 1980 in Ranchi, Nabin belongs to a family long associated with public life. His father, late Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, was a respected BJP leader and former legislator. After his father’s death, Nabin entered active politics and gradually rose through the ranks, combining organisational responsibilities with electoral work. He made his legislative debut through a by-election, necessitated by his father’s death in 2006, and has won his seat in every subsequent election.
Over the years, Nabin has held several important positions within the BJP’s organisational ecosystem. He has worked extensively with the party’s youth wing, served in national-level organisational roles, and taken charge of election-related responsibilities in states such as Sikkim and Chhattisgarh. These assignments, party sources said, helped shape him into a leader capable of managing both political strategy and cadre coordination.
