Patna: The second day of the fifth Bihar State Closed Squash Championship witnessed intense semi-final matches across categories, with top players securing their spots in the finals.
In the men’s category, Abhiraj Singh delivered a commanding performance, defeating Ranjan Kumar 11-0, 11-1, 13-0 to advance to the final. In the women’s category, defending champion Sunny Mehta triumphed over Anamika Kumari with a decisive 11-4, 11-1, 11-7 victory, marking her ninth consecutive appearance in the state-level finals and fifth in this championship.
The under-19 boys’ category saw Radhesh Sharma defeat Rahul Kumar 11-2, 11-4, 11-1 in the first semi-final, while Abhiraj Singh overcame Gaurang Bhagwar 11-3, 11-3, 11-1 in the second semi-final to secure his second final berth of the tournament.
In a thrilling under-17 girls’ semi-final, Kritika Jha staged a remarkable comeback after losing the first two sets to defeat Komal Kumari 8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-9 and claim her spot in the final.
The boys’ under-17 category featured two competitive semi-finals. In the first, Shivayan Gupta edged past Subham Saha 11-4, 13-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-7 in a five-set battle. In the second, Gaurang Bhagwar secured a straight-sets win over Sakib Rahmi 11-2, 11-5, 11-1 to reach the final.
The championship concludes tomorrow, with the winners set to be felicitated by the chief guest, Bankipur Club Sports Director Dr Sanjay Santhalia, and special guest, Bankipur Club Treasurer Satish Mohan Charanpahadi.
