Patna: Bihar Police have made significant progress in the investigation of the murder of Jitan Sahni, the father of VIP chief Mukesh Sahni. Four suspects have been identified from CCTV footage outside Sahni’s house, with two already in custody and undergoing interrogation. The suspects have confessed to various allegations, and police are working to corroborate their statements with evidence from the crime scene.
In a press conference, ADG Jitendra Singh Gangwar revealed that villagers were behind the murder. The investigation indicates that one of the accused had borrowed money from Jitan Sahni, using his bike as collateral. On Monday night at 10 PM, a dispute over interest money led to the fatal confrontation.
According to police, the four suspects attacked Sahni with a fruit-cutting knife, stabbing him in the chest and slitting his stomach, causing his intestines to protrude. Sahni died on the spot, and the assailants fled. CCTV footage captured them entering and leaving the house.
It was also discovered that Sahni had a prior altercation with the suspects two days before the murder, during which they threatened him. On the night of the murder, they came prepared and carried out the gruesome act. Even after Sahni had died, they continued their assault.
The murder took place at Jitan Sahni’s home in Afzala Panchayat, Supaul Bazar, Darbhanga district. His mutilated body was discovered on Tuesday morning by a young man delivering flowers, who then alerted the authorities. The news quickly spread, and local residents informed the police. The body was sent for post-mortem, and Sahni’s last rites were conducted after his son Mukesh Sahni arrived from Mumbai.
At the time of the murder, Jitan Sahni was alone in the house, as his children were in Mumbai. Though there were servants, none were present when the incident occurred at 10 PM.
CM Nitish Kumar has taken a stern stance on the case, instructing Bihar DGP RS Bhatti to take action. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Rural SP Kamya Mishra has been formed to probe the case from all angles. The team is interrogating the suspects, examining evidence from the house, reviewing CCTV footage, and analyzing a red box found outside the house.
A toll-free number has been issued for the public to provide any information related to the incident. Law and Order ADG Jitendra Singh Gangwar announced that Bihar Police is also conducting a covert investigation. The public can call the Police Headquarters at 14432, Darbhanga SP at 9431822982, or Darbhanga Rural SP at 6287742988. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential.
The SIT, comprising skilled police officers, is expected to solve the case soon. The two detained suspects are being closely interrogated, and any information from villagers can be reported anonymously to aid in the investigation.
