Bihar Government to Construct Five Pontoon Bridges to Boost Connectivity at a Cost of ₹104.37 Crore

Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to construct five pontoon bridges at a total cost of ₹104.37 crore. These projects, aimed at enhancing road connectivity, include bridges on the Ganga and Kosi rivers.

Key Details of the Projects:

  1. Pontoon Bridge on Ganga River (Buxar-Ballia)
    A 732-metre-long pontoon bridge will be constructed between Nainijor village (Buxar district) and Haldi village (Ballia, Uttar Pradesh) at a cost of ₹16.47 crore. This bridge will improve transportation for several villages in Buxar and Ballia.
  2. Pontoon Bridge on Ganga River (Samastipur District)
    A new bridge spanning 793 metres will connect Hardaspur and Dharnipatti in Mohanpur block of Samastipur district, costing ₹35.72 crore. This will significantly reduce the travel distance from Bakhtiyarpur to Mohanpur block from 90 km to 15 km.
  3. Pontoon Bridge on Kosi River (Madhepura-Khagaria)
    A 500-metre bridge will be built between Zero Mile (Madhepura) and Kapasia Ghat at a cost of ₹25.13 crore. This project will benefit approximately 80,000 people across 14 panchayats in Madhepura and Khagaria districts.
  4. Pontoon Bridge on Ganga River (Bakhtiyarpur-Kala Diara)
    Spanning 658.8 metres, this bridge will connect Gyaspur (Bakhtiyarpur) to Kala Diara, costing ₹11.82 crore. It will improve transport for residents of Kala Diara, Gyaspur Mahaji, and several villages in Samastipur and Vaishali districts, who currently rely on country boats.
  5. Pontoon Bridge on Ganga River (Bhojpur-Ballia)
    A 732-metre-long bridge will link Mahuli Ghat (Bhojpur) in Bihar to Sitab Diara (Ballia, Uttar Pradesh) at a cost of ₹15.21 crore. It will provide vital connectivity for dozens of villages in Bhojpur and Ballia districts.

Statement from the Deputy Chief Minister

Deputy Chief Minister and Road Construction Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha remarked that these projects will foster socio-economic development in Diara regions, improving access and opportunities for local residents.

This ambitious initiative is set to transform regional connectivity, enhance ease of transportation, and promote the overall development of rural Bihar.
