Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar conducted an inspection of the eye hospital currently under construction at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna. During his visit, the Chief Minister reviewed the OPD, ward area, operation theatre, and general ward located on the first floor of the facility.
The Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, Pratyaya Amrit, informed him that the 154-bed eye hospital, being built at a cost of ₹188 crore, will be a unique facility. The hospital will feature advanced facilities for the treatment of corneal and refractive issues, glaucoma, retina, and uvea conditions. It will also provide specialised care in paediatrics and neuro-ophthalmology, along with a 24-hour emergency service, making it the largest eye hospital in the government sector in North-East India.
During the inspection, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to expedite the completion of the remaining construction work. He stated that once completed, this specialised hospital will offer comprehensive treatment for eye-related diseases, significantly benefiting patients. The hospital will serve as another option for quality eye care in the state.
In addition to inspecting the eye hospital, the Chief Minister also sought updates from officials regarding the overall arrangements at IGIMS.
Accompanying the Chief Minister during the inspection were Health Minister Mangal Pandey, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, IGIMS Director Dr. Binde Prasad, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Manish Mandal, and other senior officials from the health department. The eye hospital at IGIMS is one of the Chief Minister’s dream projects, and upon its completion, residents of Bihar will no longer need to seek eye treatment outside the state.
