Patna: In a significant move, the Bihar Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has approved the creation of 4315 new posts at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Bihar’s largest government hospital. These positions are for the new building currently under construction, which will have 5462 beds.
After the cabinet meeting, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Department, S. Siddharth, announced the approval of a total of 36 proposals. Among the key decisions, the Bihar Purchase Preference Policy 2024 was sanctioned to support local companies. This policy ensures that even if Bihar companies bid 15% higher than external competitors, they will still receive 25% of the work.
The new policy aims to benefit companies operating in Bihar and attract new investments by guaranteeing a minimum 25% contract share. Additionally, the cabinet approved the creation of 102 lower division clerk positions in the Transport Department’s regional office.
The cabinet also addressed absenteeism among medical professionals by dismissing several doctors who were consistently absent without notice. This included Dr. Naushad Ali of Daniyawan PHC, Dr. Gupta Sushma Sanjay of Ahmedabad Primary Health Center in Katihar, Dr. Akbar of Cheria Bariyarpur Community Health Center, Dr. Santosh Kumar of Tarabari, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar of Aurangabad Sadar Hospital.
Moreover, the cabinet authorized the revival of the toy train at Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna Zoo). The Danapur Railway Division has been tasked with operating the 3.7-kilometer track, with a budget allocation of Rs 9 crore 88 lakh for the project.
These decisions highlight the Bihar government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and enhancing recreational facilities for the public.
