Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) in Bihar has launched a major crackdown on corruption, carrying out coordinated raids against two public servants accused of amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
The action follows two separate cases registered on March 29, 2026 under EOU Police Station Case Nos. 03/26 and 04/26. FIRs have been lodged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018). Acting on search warrants issued by the Special Vigilance Court in Patna, officials began simultaneous raids at 12 locations on Tuesday morning.
In the first case, Gautam Kumar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kishanganj, has been named as an accused. Preliminary investigations indicate that he allegedly accumulated assets worth ₹1.94 crore beyond his known sources of income, amounting to approximately 60.27 per cent excess wealth.

Search operations are currently underway at six premises linked to the SDPO across Patna, Purnia and Kishanganj. Multiple teams comprising officers of the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police are leading the action.
In the second case, action has been initiated against Vaibhav Kumar, Director of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Saharsa. Investigators have reportedly found evidence of disproportionate assets worth ₹2.41 crore, nearly 78.03 per cent higher than his known income.
EOU teams have launched simultaneous searches at six locations associated with him in Saharsa and Muzaffarpur, with separate teams deployed to conduct the raids.
According to EOU officials, the operations in both cases are being carried out under the supervision of senior police officers. Teams have been instructed to conduct a thorough assessment of all documents and properties recovered during the searches.
The EOU has been actively pursuing corruption cases in Bihar and has taken action against several senior officials in recent months. The ongoing raids are expected to yield further evidence, and a detailed account of seized assets, documents and other materials will be released upon completion of the search operations, the agency said.
