Patna: Bihar Agriculture Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, has said that a comprehensive assessment is underway to evaluate crop losses caused by storms, unseasonal rainfall, and hailstorms that struck several districts during the third and fourth weeks of March 2026.
According to the Minister, district agriculture officers have already submitted detailed damage reports to the department. Based on reports received so far from 36 districts, extensive crop losses have been recorded in 111 blocks across 12 districts — Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Araria, Begusarai, Madhubani, Purnia, Khagaria, Kishanganj, Madhepura, Darbhanga, Supaul, and Bhagalpur.
The assessment indicates that crops spread over approximately 206,658.12 hectares — including wheat, maize, pulses, oilseeds, and other produce — have suffered damage of 33 per cent or more in the affected regions.
Yadav assured that financial assistance for crop compensation will be provided to affected farmers at the earliest, in accordance with existing norms. He added that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and expediting administrative procedures to ensure timely relief.
“The Bihar government stands firmly with farmers in every circumstance. Providing all possible assistance to those affected by natural disasters is our top priority,” he said. He further emphasised that there will be no shortage of funds for compensation, noting that the government believes disaster victims have the first claim on the state exchequer.
Reassuring the farming community, the Minister stated that the government is committed to covering their losses and will soon disburse relief funds, enabling farmers to resume agricultural activities without delay.
