Bhagalpur: Untimely widespread rainfall in Bihar has led to crop damage for farmers. Majority districts of state experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on last Friday and Saturday.
As per information on an average more than 13 mm rainfall stated to be 195 percent more than average rainfall was recorded in majority districts of state. The rabi crops wheat, maize, mustard besides pulses suffered badly due to rainfall and strong wind.
Rainfall also marred encouraging prospects of fruit crop particularly mango and litchi. Katihar, Supaul, Samastipur and Begusarai districts of state reportedly received maximum rainfall.
Maize crop grown extensively in Gangetic and Kosi belt of this district in particular suffered badly because of untimely rainfall. The standing maize crop in more than fifty per cent cases have been damaged in both Gangetic and Kosi belts in rain and wind.
Mango crop grown extensively in this district has suffered badly due to untimely rainfall. The prospects of litchi grown in vast area of Naugachia sub division is also stated to have been marred because of inclement weather condition.
In case of wheat, it is stated the harvested crop yet to be shifted from fields in most cases, the rains caused crop loss for farmers. The state agriculture department meanwhile has initiated process for assessing crop damage.
Minister Orders Swift Crop Loss Assessment After Unseasonal Storms
Patna: Bihar’s Agriculture Minister, Ram Kripal Yadav, on Sunday directed senior officials to carry out an immediate assessment of crop damage caused by unseasonal storms and rainfall across various districts of the state.
The Minister instructed the Principal Secretary, Agriculture Director, Horticulture Director, and other departmental officials to evaluate the extent of losses without delay. He also asked agricultural teams to be mobilised on the ground to ensure that farmers receive all possible assistance.
Emphasising urgency, Yadav said the assessment must be completed promptly so that relief measures can be initiated at the earliest. He assured that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the state government stands firmly with farmers during this difficult period.
“The first claim on the state exchequer belongs to those affected by the disaster,” he said, reiterating the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive support.
The Minister added that once the assessment reports are received, the Agriculture Department will consider all possible measures, including the provision of alternative crop seeds, and ensure swift relief to affected farmers.
