Mokama MLA Anant Singh in Bihar Assembly

Patna: Accused in the murder of a candidate’s close associate during campaigning ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections 2025, Anant Singh on Tuesday took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly during the Budget Session.
Known for his flamboyant style and frequent viral moments — from appearances with horses to his outspoken remarks — the strongman politician made his way to the Bihar Assembly from Beur Jail to complete the formalities.
Anant Singh had been unable to take oath immediately after being elected as an MLA. After receiving special permission, he arrived under strict security, took the oath, and paid his respects by touching Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s feet. His exit, however, once again drew attention, as he was seen sitting with open arms at the rear of an ambulance, posing for photographs and videos.

Following the loss of his Assembly membership due to conviction in a separate case, Singh had fielded his wife in the Mokama Assembly by-election. She won the seat on an RJD ticket and later extended support to the NDA government during the floor test in 2024, helping it prove its majority. Shortly afterwards, Anant Singh was released from jail.
After being acquitted, Singh himself entered the fray in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. He defeated RJD candidate Veena Devi by a margin of 28,206 votes from the Mokama seat. However, during the election campaign, the murder of a candidate’s supporter had taken place, in which Singh was named the prime accused. Despite his victory, the case prevented him from taking oath earlier.
With permission granted ahead of the presentation of the state Budget on February 3, Anant Singh finally took oath as an MLA on Tuesday.
