Patna: Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Bihar ahead of the New Year celebrations. In the state capital, Patna, security has been tightened in view of the large crowds expected on the night of December 31 and January 1. Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma said maintaining law and order during the festivities remains the police’s top priority, and special measures have been implemented citywide.
The SSP said that thousands of people are expected to visit popular locations such as Capital Vatika, Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park (Patna Zoo), various parks and picnic spots. Heavy footfall is also anticipated at Mahavir Mandir, gurdwaras, major temples and churches. In view of this, additional police forces have been deployed at all such locations.
Plainclothes personnel will also be stationed to keep a close watch on anti-social elements. Special traffic arrangements have been made, with several areas declared no-parking zones. Route diversions will be enforced if required.
Barricading will be carried out in crowded areas to prevent haphazard parking and traffic congestion. Traffic police have been placed on alert, and extra personnel deployed at major intersections. Citizens have been urged to use designated parking areas and strictly follow traffic rules.
The SSP said police will keep a strict vigil on biker gangs indulging in reckless behaviour during the celebrations. Stern action will be taken against those involved in dangerous riding, stunts, zig-zag driving and overspeeding. He said police have taken action in the past in areas such as Marine Drive and will show zero tolerance this time as well. Special drives will be conducted against drunk driving.
Police are also maintaining strict vigilance over boat operations on the Ganga river. The SSP said adherence to safety norms will be mandatory, and boats will be allowed to operate only as per rules. Strict action will be taken against unauthorised operations without proper safety arrangements.

Special measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of women. The Shakti Security Team will remain fully active, the SSP said. Women can immediately contact the police or the Shakti team in case of harassment, inappropriate remarks or any sense of insecurity. He urged women to report any problem without fear.
Appealing for public cooperation, Patna Police said the New Year should be celebrated in a peaceful and harmonious manner so that everyone can welcome the New Year safely and happily. Special security arrangements have been made across the state to ensure that people do not face any inconvenience during the celebrations.
