Patna: Following the liquor ban in Bihar, the drug trafficking has seen a significant surge, prompting the Patna police to implement enhanced security measures. A major operation was carried out in Patna late at night, resulting in the arrest of 176 individuals and the registration of 54 FIRs across various police stations in the city.
City SP East Bharat Soni stated that the Patna Police had received numerous complaints on social media regarding drug consumption. In response, the police launched a large-scale operation across both urban and rural areas of Patna, leading to hundreds of arrests and the filing of multiple FIRs.
Under the direction of SSP cum DIG Rajiv Mishra, a substantial quantity of narcotics was seized during the operation. The haul included approximately 12.5 kg of ganja, 30 grams of smack, 10 grams of brown sugar, 1 kg of cannabis, and 23 cartons of foreign liquor.
Raids were conducted across several locations, including key squares and parks in Patna, with the police also targeting known gambling dens. A significant quantity of drugs, along with pistols and cartridges, was recovered, according to City SP Bharat Soni.
Additionally, several vehicles suspected to be used for drug trafficking were confiscated during the operation. The police seized a Scorpio, two auto-rickshaws, a motorcycle, and a stolen e-rickshaw. A country-made pistol and two live cartridges were also recovered. SP Bharat Soni emphasised that this campaign against the increasing number of drug traffickers and users will continue.
