Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for 157 key urban development projects worth ₹286 crore through a virtual programme held at the Sankalp Hall in the Lok Seva Bhavan.
Of the total projects, 114 schemes worth ₹239 crore were inaugurated, while foundation stones were laid for 43 projects costing ₹47 crore.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the government is committed to making Bihar more beautiful and modern, adding that continuous efforts are underway to improve urban infrastructure. Several projects executed by the Patna Municipal Corporation, Patna Smart City Limited, and BUDCO were launched during the event.
He stated that the state government is working in line with the vision of a developed India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a prosperous Bihar envisioned by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The aim is to transform cities across Bihar into modern, clean, well-organised and world-class urban centres.
Highlighting Patna’s historical significance, Choudhary said the city is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. Efforts are being made to blend its rich heritage with modern development. A number of ambitious schemes focusing on beautification, infrastructure expansion, and strengthening civic amenities are being implemented.
Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, a foundation stone was laid for the Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan Park, themed on “Waste to Wonder”, at a cost of ₹11.44 crore. The park will also showcase the life of Jayaprakash Narayan and is expected to emerge as a unique centre for environmental awareness.

The Chief Minister said that solid waste management systems are being strengthened to ensure cleaner cities. He also highlighted ongoing efforts under the Namami Gange programme to connect more households in Patna to the sewerage network, which will contribute to both urban cleanliness and the rejuvenation of the Ganga.
To improve urban amenities, a ‘Sabzi Haat’ scheme will be implemented across the city based on local needs, providing better market facilities for residents and easing traffic congestion.
Several projects under the Patna Smart City initiative were also inaugurated, including riverfront development works, JP Ganga Path, and green area development by the Forest Department, along with parking zones, gardens and walking pathways.

In a move aimed at boosting employment and income opportunities, 50 modern-design shops were approved for construction, while 200 prefabricated shops were inaugurated under the Smart City scheme.
Looking ahead, the Chief Minister announced plans for a new modern township named ‘Patliputra’. Spread across 66,000 acres, the satellite township will offer international-standard residential, educational, healthcare, commercial and recreational facilities.
He said these initiatives would not only position Patna as a model of modern urban development but also elevate its historical and cultural legacy. The government’s goal is to develop every city in Bihar into a centre of growth, cleanliness and good governance.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra and Additional Chief Secretary Vinay Kumar also addressed the programme. Several public representatives and senior officials were present on the occasion.
