Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday laid the foundation stone and unveiled plaques for eco tourism projects at Dhol Pahari in Asarganj block of Munger district, as well as at Uchcheshwar Nath Dham in Devghara village under Tetia Bambar block.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister in detail about the site plans and proposed layouts for the eco tourism initiatives at both locations.
During his visit, the Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary offered prayers at the Maa Durga temple atop Dhol Pahari, seeking peace, prosperity and well-being for the state.
Dhol Pahari, located in Asarganj block, is known for its scenic natural beauty, lush greenery and tranquil surroundings, making it an attractive destination for tourists. Its proximity to Asarganj market ensures easy accessibility for both local and visiting travellers. The hilltop offers panoramic views that particularly appeal to nature enthusiasts.
The site also holds religious significance, with an ancient Shiva temple that attracts large numbers of devotees, especially during the holy month of Shravan. Local beliefs hold that Lord Shiva’s blessings are especially potent at this place. Historically, Dhol Pahari is noted for its distinctive rock formations and natural structure. According to local folklore, it once served as a secret hideout for revolutionaries during the British era, who would beat drums from the hill to signal the approach of colonial forces—giving the hill its name.

The state government is now developing Dhol Pahari as a modern eco tourism hub. A project worth ₹1,249 crore has been approved by the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department. The plan includes pathways, potable water facilities, security arrangements, expansion of green spaces, construction of a grand Shiva statue, paved roads, stairways, parking facilities and a formal entrance gate.
Meanwhile, Uchcheshwar Nath Dham, situated on a hill in Devghara village, is surrounded by dense forests and scenic hills. The temple is regarded as one of the most sacred and spiritually significant Shiva shrines in the region, with a history dating back centuries. The Shivlinga installed here is believed to be ancient and central to the region’s cultural and religious identity. Large fairs are held during Maha Shivaratri and the month of Shravan, drawing lakhs of devotees for ritual offerings.
An eco tourism development project worth ₹26.31 crore has been approved for the site. The government aims to transform it into a major tourist destination, with enhanced facilities for pilgrims and visitors. The initiative is expected to boost tourism, generate employment and contribute to the region’s economic growth.
Following the foundation ceremony, the Samrat Choudhary conducted roadshows in Baijalpur, Lakhanpur and Tarapur. Residents welcomed him warmly with drumbeats, fireworks, flower showers and distribution of sweets on his first visit to the area. He acknowledged the greetings and expressed gratitude to the public.
Several dignitaries, including local legislators, senior officials and police personnel, were present at the event, along with a large gathering of citizens.
