Rock Paintings of Neolithic and Early Historic Periods Found at Gidheshwar Hills of Jamui District

Jamui: In a major historically important development, rock paintings of neolithic and early historic periods were discovered today at Gidheshwar hills of this district. The rock paintings located in an almost impenetrable rock shelter of Gidheshwar hills were found by an investigating team of district forest department.
The discovery of the rock paintings of neolithic and early historic periods, it is felt at administrative level, has established the picturesque Gidheshwar hills of the district including Gidheshwar forest area known for its natural beauty had been a center in past that witnessed evolution of human culture and civilization during pre-historic period.
The Gidheshwar forest area apart from its natural beauty is also famous for public belief concerning mythological memories of Ramayana period. As per official observation regarding discovery of rock paintings, the Gidheshwar hills apart from being a natural sanctuary had witnessed artistic expressions of primitive man thousands of years ago.
It has been officially stated, under pre historic period the neolithic or new stone age was period when shunning nomadic life style ancient people started settling and took to agriculture and also rearing of animals.
The rock paintings found in Gidheshwar hills depicts social understanding and circumstances of people belonging to neolithic and early historic periods, the official statement has added.
In official statement it has been further stated that depiction of human activities including mass jubilation beside wild animals in rock paintings establishes Gidheshwar hill area had evidenced developed human culture and civilization beside historical continuity of neolithic and early historic periods.

The discovered rock paintings are historically important in a sense the paintings it is likely would help in establishing link between life styles of ancient and modern man, the official statement has mentioned.
Meanwhile district administration has decided to ensure proper conservation of the rock paintings. Under guidance of Sri Navin, district magistrate, process has been already initiated for preparing a workplan aimed at conserving ecology and historical heritage of district. The district magistrate said scientific conservation of heritage sites figures prominently in integrated development plan of district.
There is a future plan of developing Gidheshwar hill as major tourist and research centre, district magistrate added. The investing team of district forest department that discovered the rock paintings was led by Tejas Jaiswal, divisional forest officer. The members of the team included Mithilesh Kumar, forester beside Deepu Ravidas and Dhirendra Kumar both forest guards.
