Patna: Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag met Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday, with discussions focusing on planning and development of sports in the state, particularly cricket. The meeting took place at the Deputy CM’s official residence.
Sharing details on his social media handle X, Choudhary said Sehwag was accorded a warm welcome with a shawl and a memento. In his post, he described Sehwag—popularly known as the ‘Sultan of Multan’—as one of India’s star cricketers and an explosive batsman who set numerous records.
The Deputy CM said a wide-ranging discussion was held on opportunities and potential in Bihar’s sports sector, especially cricket. He added that the state government is actively promoting sports and has introduced several schemes, including the ‘Medal Lao, Naukri Pao’ initiative, under which young athletes are being provided government jobs.

Reacting to the post, several social media users commented that Bihar is gearing up for big sporting events. One user pointed out that a Legends cricket match is scheduled to be held in Bihar on January 11 and said the state is now ready for major matches. Bihar Sports Minister and international shooter Shreyasi Singh has also given a new slogan to promote sports development in the state.
Some users raised concerns over cricket administration in Bihar, with one demanding that the headquarters of the Bihar Cricket Association be shifted to Bhagalpur, alleging that genuine talent is not getting opportunities in Patna. Others suggested that the Bihar government should leverage Sehwag’s massive fan following to further boost sports in the state.
