By Neeraj Kumar

Patna: In a significant reshuffle within the Bihar police department, the state government has appointed 1991 batch IPS officer Vinay Kumar as the new Director General of Police (DGP). A notification to this effect was issued by the Home Department late on Friday evening.

Vinay Kumar, who previously served as the Director General of the Police Building Construction Corporation, will assume the position of DGP for a fixed tenure of two years. Known for his efficiency and integrity, Kumar has held key positions such as Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order and ADG of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, he is regarded as a competent officer with a strong track record in policing.

This appointment follows the removal of Alok Raj, who had been serving as in-charge DGP after former DGP RS Bhatti was deputed to a central post. Alok Raj has now been reassigned as the Managing Director of the Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation.

The reshuffle also includes the transfer of IPS officer Jitendra Singh Gangwar, who was the Director General of Civil Defence cum Commissioner. He has been appointed as the Director General of the Surveillance Investigation Bureau, while retaining additional charge as DG of Civil Defence.

This reshuffle is being viewed as a strategic move to strengthen Bihar’s policing infrastructure and streamline law enforcement operations.
